Lately, I’ve noticed many Sanford and Orlando-area buyers and sellers feeling a little uncertain about what’s ahead—and the latest data backs that up. While people are still feeling positive about current economic conditions, overall confidence across the U.S. just slipped to a seven-month low. The present-conditions index actually climbed by about 7 points to 121, but expectations for income, business, and jobs took a hit, dropping the expectations gauge down nearly 6 points to 68. That’s a level we’ve seen linked to recession risks before.
In early Q3, employers cut 23,000 jobs, and unemployment ticked up to about 4%, but mostly because more people left the workforce rather than more jobs being added. Even with all this, homebuying expectations held steady and even kept rising a bit in mid-Q3, with only a slight dip. Around 61% of people still think interest rates will go higher, and with federal policymakers keeping rates unchanged and markets not expecting much relief soon, borrowing costs are likely to stay high through the end of the year.
After 14 years guiding families through the ups and downs of our local market, I know how these national shifts can feel close to home. If you’re thinking about your next move, I’m always here to offer a grounded perspective—whether it’s your first home or your forever one.
